How Are You Feeling?
When you, or a loved one, have just been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease your first thoughts will probably be that your ‘normal’ life is about to change. You might find that you have a number of different feelings. You may feel shocked, disbelieving, angry, frightened and worried not only for you but also for your family. Or you might feel totally different. Finding it hard to take in the that you, or a loved one, have an asbestos-related disease at all.
When you have been diagnosed, your emotions play an important role in your well-being. Talking to your family and friends can definitely help. But we at HASAG Asbestos Disease Support know that some people are scared of the emotions this could bring up. They won’t or indeed can’t talk to their family and this can lead to strained family relationships.
We believe that many of our patients and their families would find it easier to talk to someone outside of their own friends and family. They could really benefit from being able to speak with a professional counsellor. The counsellor will listen to you and your family where they feel that counselling will help them. The counsellor will help you to discuss and explore your frustrations and worries. They will help you and your family to identify emotional and physical coping mechanisms.
