Here at HASAG, we recognise the impact that a mesothelioma diagnosis can have on patients and their families, this is mainly from personal experiences and 19 years of providing care and support to mesothelioma patients and their families.
In response to this we are delighted to launch our Buddy Scheme to help provide a more person-centred level of support.
The aim of the service is not to provide any medical or treatment advice but more a listening ear at a time when patients and their families can feel very overwhelmed and alone. All of our Buddies are existing patients and carers who have extensive experience of what it is like to live with a mesothelioma diagnosis.
Any new patients or carers of patients can be referred to the Buddy Scheme by contacting Rachel, the Community Mesothelioma Nurse, via email. Rachel will then match each patient or carer up with a suitable Buddy who will then call the patient/carer.
The aim is to provide a one-to-one support to patients who may not feel able to attend a patient support group.
All patients or carers will be allocated up to 2 calls with the chosen Buddy. All of our Buddies receive training and support to carry out this role and I am delighted that we can offer this amazing service to all the HASAG patients.
For more information or to be referred to the Buddy Scheme please email Rachel at rachel@hasag.co.uk.
