3rd July 2020 was Action Mesothelioma Day.

Normally we would spend the day with so many of you, with a Butterfly release, raffle, guest speakers, buffet and more. Unfortunately, this year this could not go ahead. While the Covid-19 Pandemic has completely changed our day-to-day lives, we have not lost sight of what is important to HASAG.

We decided to deliver our Action Mesothelioma Day online, with a video premiering on YouTube and Facebook. If you haven’t seen this video, click here. We were keen to mark the day as we always have. It is important to us, and so many of our supporters that this day is celebrated. For so many it is a day of remembrance, we remember people by releasing Butterflies.  For HASAG it is also a day to bring us all together. While we could not be together in real-life, so many of you supported us virtually and it was lovely seeing so many of you engaging, liking, and commenting on these videos. We felt a sense of togetherness.

We have been completely overwhelmed with the generosity our supporters have shown. This year we matched our record amount raised back in 2018 of £40,000! This will be donated to the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund and Mesothelioma UK to part-fund a Mesothelioma Nurse Specialist. Even in these tough times, you have never stopped supporting us and we could not be more grateful to have such fabulous friends.

As well as AMD, we also carried out ‘The 2.6 Challenge’ during the early weeks of lockdown. This fundraiser raised over £2,000! We are now in our next fundraiser, Team HASAG and Friends are in a race to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro (virtually). Follow our social media pages for updates on this fundraiser and donate here.

While this year has been difficult for so many, it has really shown the team here how special our supporters are. It is true when we say without people like you, we couldn’t do what we do.

Thank you.
